O.J. Simpson settles into new Environment

I just got back from Dallas and wanted to catch up on some current news stories. Interestingly, the ongoing criminal saga of O.J. Simpson was not as huge of a story in Dallas as compared to certain other states I have recently spent time in. All in all, I am certain that it is a much larger story in Florida or Buffalo, for example. As I am sure you know by now, disgraced former football star O.J. Simpson was sentenced to 9-33 years behind bars for his criminal role in the armed robbery which went awry in a Nevada hotel room. It was a fairly touph sentence (although not at all unusual for this particular judge, who has a reputation for not being especially soft on criminal cases overall) for what was almost funny, had it not involved firearms which could have caused serious injury.
All in all, Simpson, who is sixty-one years old, may spend the rest of his life behind bars unless he can win his appeal or manage to win an early parole. It appears nine years is the minimum sentence, however, and Nevada may prove a toupher place to be paroled early than California would have been. He has repeatedly stated that he was simply attempting to recover sports memorabilia stolen from him.
Although no one actually suffered personal injury, 2 of the robbers happened to pull out firearms during the botched robbery. I am sure he had a good criminal defense lawyer, although not as good as the dream team lawyer (s) that he had the first time around in the criminal murder trial earlier.
The judge has stated more than once that the sentence had nothing to do with Simpson’s previous acquittal in the murder of his former wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. And yet, she repeatedly brought up the subject which may indicate that the thought was not too far from her mind. But regardless of where one stands on that earlier California trial, the 2 cases were separate events.
It is interesting to see the contrast between the defendent’s first “Trial of the Century” and his most recent conviction in Nevada. It is almost a Page 2 story in the newspaper by comparison. I think a big part of that is the calibre of his particular lawyer team.
In the first trial he had the help of the “dream team” and this time he could not afford a lawyer of the status of Shapiro or Cochran.
Speaking of a top-rated lawyer, if you happen to reside in Dallas, Texas and require a leading Dallas criminal attorney then you may want to consider the Law offices of Arnold legal there.
In the meantime, a Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman stated that Simpson arrived last week at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs.
This is a medium security facility and is around 45 miles or so northwest of Las Vegas. It has some three thousand beds and serves as the intake center for new southern Nevada prison inmates, according to an Associated Press report online. For his part, Simpson reportedly gave out candy bars to his fellow inmates.

Giants Receiver Shoots Himself

Filed under: Uncategorized — umwsc @ 8:49 pm

I just returned from lovely Washington and news time:New york City Giants receiver Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg. Plaxico and friend, Antonio Pierce, were at a nightclub in New York City and the gun Plax was carrying discharged, shooting him in the leg on accident. (Coincidentally, it was the same leg with a hamstring injury that was going to prohibit him from playing in the game against St. Louis)

Plax is likely to be suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, even though it was apparently an accident. Additionally, because it was a violation that occurred off the field and his leg injury was not sustained on the field, the Giants don’t have to pay him for the time he misses. They can recoup money from his bonuses for this indiscretion. By the way if you need a solid Washington accident lawyer then by all means inquire with the Law Offices as they are a leading Washington accident lawyer around the state.
Mr. Buress may also face criminal charges for carrying a concealed weapon. If he does not have a license for the gun, this too will be added to the charges he will be facing. Benjamin Brafman, lawyer to Sean “P-Diddy” Combs, has been retained to defend Plaxico. I am looking forward to my road trip back to Washington, it should be pretty fun overall. It is amazing what one accident can do to a career.
