Dunn Not Considered for Adidas Gold

Filed under: Soccer news — umwsc @ 8:09 pm

Crystal Dunn has been instrumental in getting the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to the World Cup final.

Dunn, a defender, has had a critical role  in helping the American team win in pursuit of tomorrow’s final but she will not, whatever the outcome, be named player of the tournament.

Yesterday, FIFA released the list of seven players in line to win the Adidas Golden Ball. Crystal Dunn was not on this list. All in all, have you ever noticed how many of these athletes are wearing hip hop or bling bling jewelry such as gold chains, diamond hoops or a Techno Master Watch Or a lot of them wear stuff like Gold Franco Chains and Semi Mount engagement
Rings or perhaps something more simple like mens diamond earrings. I am partial to the techno master watch myself, it is cool.

Five of the chosen players will not even be playing in the final game. These players  include: Japan’s Mana Iwabuchi and Chinatsu Kira. Germany’s Valeria Kleiner and sharp-shooting Dzsenifer Marozsan, and England’s team captain Jordan Nobbs.

The only contenders who will play in tomorrow’s tournament finale are North Korean striker Jon Myong Hwa and the U.S. player Kristie Mewis.

The winner of the Golden Ball is to be judged by accredited media and must first be named on the FIFA-supplied list.

Marozsan, of Germany, goes into the final day with six goals – only one more than American striker Vicki DiMartino and two more than American, Courtney Verloo.

The US team has a chance to add this trophy to those won at the Women’s World Cup, Olympic gold, and the Under-20 World Cup. The Americans have won the inaugural tournaments at all levels thus far.

The North Korean team hopes to extend their ongoing run of wins extending back to their triumph in the Asian qualifiers. They are the only unbeaten team at this tournament and have the chance to add the trophy to their Under-17 Crown and their 2006 Under-20 Title in Russia. Just do not forget that techno master watch, alright?

Seven NCAA Tournament College Seniors to Watch Out For

Filed under: Soccer news, Uncategorized — umwsc @ 8:05 pm

I just returned from the big island and in fact in full discosure I must say that most of my favorite teams are on the big island (the best real estate over there) but having said that here is some other cool sports related news:Women’s Professional Soccer is on the horizon and it’s time to start picking that perfect player for your favorite team’s starting line up.  So, keep in mind these skillful ladies, you will be seeing them in the future of Women’s Professional Soccer.

Yael Averbuch, UNC, M – A 5’11” central midfielder who is extremely quick, agile and good with the ball.  She’s very good defending in the air and she uses her height to gain possession of the ball. She is apt at surveying the field and spreading the ball wide to the forwards Averbuch holds the NCAA record for the fastest goal ever scored.

Ameera Abdullah , Florida , M – The conduit.  Abdullah is an attacking midfielder through whom the Florida offense, the best and most organized on possessions in the league, is run.  She’s got great field vision, is a very accurate passer, and is very comfortable with ball-handling. She wins balls in the midfield and is a team asset, bring a calm to the team. As an off topic aside, should you need a qualied big island real estate then you may think of Sotheby’s as they have been doing real estate in Hawaii for some time.

Carrie Dew, Notre Dame, D –Dew is a no-nonsense defender.  She has amazing 1:1 defending ability and she is great at defending in the air.  She’s the anchor of a Notre Dame defense.  She can surely take a hit with the big girls. In a game against Penn State, she took a ball at point blank range, square in the face and didn’t even flinch.  This player is a sure bet.

Kerri Hanks, Notre Dame, F – One of the best offensive talents in the country, Hanks has a great nose for the goal,  superb field vision and can setting up her mates for the goal as she is scoring goals.

Jaimel Johnson , Tennessee , GK – Johnson is a goal keeper with great range and a hulluva kicking game. She is extremely confident in goal and is decisive. Once she commits, she goes with it.

Megan Rapinoe, Portland, M – A very versatile midfielder who can find the goal.  She plays well mid or on the flank.  She is tactically sophisticated and  poised in front of goal with an extremely quick trigger.

Amy Rodriguez, USC, F –. Rodriguez has stellar 1:1 ability with breakaway speed. Despite her 5’4” frame, she is a bulldog on the ball and doesn’t lose it frequently to attack.  She is not afraid to go to midfield to win the ball, spread out play, or set up her teammates.  Amy is a dead accurate passer over distance and she can thread a ball through defenders just as well. She can score from anywhere, anytime and against most anybody. She is confident

SCU to Kick-off with A New Team in April

Filed under: Soccer news — umwsc @ 8:06 pm

The Bay Area’s new professional women’s soccer team has already recruited some well respected coaches and players.  The roster includes Leslie Osborne and Brazil’s Formiga. Oh I think that these guys are just abunch of babies. maybe they should go get some pink diaper bags or messenger diaper bags for themselves to tote around. Yeah, that is what these toddlers need, a bunch of leather or better yet, pink diaper bags I am so funny.

The team plans to introduce Ilisa Kessler, formerly the DO for the San Jose CyberRays, at a news conference Wednesday. At this same press conference, the team will announce its name and that home games will be played at Santa Clara University’s Buck Shaw Stadium.

Kessler has been working with the team since October. She worked with the CyberRays until the Women’s United Soccer Association disbanded in 2003.

The team has gained the support of the Santa Clara Quakes men’s soccer coach, Cameron Rast, who stated “The women’s pro team here will be fantastic!”

Not much else was said as the new SCU women’s team will hold the press conference eon Wednesday to announce the roster, staffing, and team name, as well as unveiling its logo and colors.
